As a result, Dashun Dian endures almost nightly encounters with greedy and lecherous bandits. One day, a man named Zhang Wa passes by with his wife. The bandits try to persuade Zhang Wa to join them, and the bandit leader, Ma Wangye, rapes Zhang Wa’s wife, driving her to suicide out of grief and rage. Dashun Dian seizes the opportunity to kill Ma Wangye and reveals her own tragic past to Zhang Wa. Deeply moved by her story, Zhang Wa decides to stay. Over time, Zhang Wa gradually develops feelings for Dashun Dian.
